| Sierra Foothills is one of the least visited wine growing region by
wine travelers. Wine in this region had flourished during the years of the
"Gold Rush". Populations of the Americans and foreigners
in this region grow tremendously in the late 1940s. The demand of all
sorts of goods madly increased and wine is no exception. The number of
vineyards and wineries boom, outnumbering many other major California wine
regions like Napa Valley. |

However, with the collapse of the "gold mining", wine was
also greatly affected. Many wine growers switched to other fruits like
apples and etc... In the 1970, wine growing start to recover gradually
with some new major wineries coming to the
region.

Foothills
The most popular grape variety grown in the Sierra Foothills region is
the red Zindafel. As for the white, Sauvignon Blanc is the most widely
grown. In addition, you will also be able to find Carbernet, Merlot and
Chardonnay in this region. In Sierra Foothills, there are also growing
interest in the Rhone and Italian varieties - Syrah, Barbera, Viognier as
