Bay Area - San Jose, South Santa Clara and Livermore 

Bay Area consisting of San Jose, South Santa Clara and Livermore were homes of the vine dated as early as the 1700s. However, in the recent decades, there are more housing developments in the Bay Area causing the vineyards to have no choice but to give way. In the South Santa Clara, wineries still retaining the good old days charm where they are mainly small producers . Some of them were started by the Italian. 

As for San Jose, most of the wineries obtained their grapes from the other California regions especially the Monterey. As for Livermore, it is the place where the first bottled labeled "Chardonnay" in California was born in 1936.    

Grape Varieties grown in  Bay Area

As for the grape varieties in the Bay Area, they are mainly Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon as well as the Chardonnay. Some of the grape cutting were even brought to the region from France and planted in the Vineyards... like the Mirassou.
